Celebrating Mother’s Day

Celebrating Mother’s Day
Posted on: May 7, 2026

Moms, grandmothers, stepmoms, aunts, godmothers, and every woman you've ever called mom — this one's for them. They deserve more than a card and breakfast in bed. They deserve fresh air, a horizon that goes on forever, and the particular kind of quiet that only a bay at golden hour can provide.

Whether you're celebrating on Mother's Day or a couple of days before, Portland, Texas makes a genuinely beautiful destination. Easy to get to, easy to enjoy, and full of the kind of experiences that make the special woman in your life feel like the whole day was planned just for her.

Here's your guide to making it a Mother's Day weekend she'll actually remember.

What's Happening This Weekend (May 8–10)

Portland has several events and specials coming up she might enjoy — from live music and crawfish to a Mother-Son dance and a celebration at Fifth & Elm. Here's what's on the calendar:

Friday, May 8

Saturday, May 9

Sunday, May 10

Start Her Morning Right

Celebrating Mother's Day

The best mornings don't require a reservation. They just require showing up somewhere beautiful with something warm to drink.

  • Bloom City Coffee Co. - Portland's craft coffee destination. Premium beans, intentional preparation, and the kind of energy that makes you want to linger. Grab something to go and take it to the water.
  • 7 Brew - Quick, quality, and always consistent. Perfect for grabbing on the way to the trail or the pier.
  • Donut Man - Fresh donuts, buttery kolaches, and coffee that actually wakes you up. Open early and loved by locals.

Then take her somewhere she'll remember.

  • A Morning Walk at Sunset Lake Park - The two-mile trail through the coastal marsh is one of the most beautiful walks in the Corpus Christi area. Birdsong, wetland views, and the smell of salt in the cool morning air. Spring migration is still in full swing in May, making this one of the best spots in the region to catch something rare and beautiful in flight. No agenda, no itinerary. Just the trail and the morning.
  • A Peaceful Morning at Indian Point Pier - Open 24/7 and completely free. The bay views are wide and calming, and the new pavilion is a perfect place to sit with coffee and watch the water. Bring a fishing pole if she's into it — redfish, trout, and black drum are catch-and-keep year-round. Or just come to sit. Either counts.
  • A Kayak on the Bay at Chris Andrews Boat Launch - Self-serve kayak rentals available daily from 8 a.m. to sunset. Single and tandem kayaks available. Rent a tandem and go together. All gear included. Scan the QR code on-site and go.
  • B&B Theatres Portland Northshore 8 - Or catch a matinee together and let someone else make the popcorn for a change. Sometimes the best Mother's Day plan is a dark theater, a great film, and nowhere to be.

Pamper Her

Give her time to exhale. Portland has salons, spas, and nail studios — whether she wants a fresh blowout, a full spa day, or just an hour to herself. Check ahead for weekend availability.

Here are just a few of many:

Gifts & Shopping

Shop local and skip the shipping. Portland's boutiques and gift shops have something for every kind of mom — from fresh flowers to vintage finds to a bundt cake she'll actually love. Looking for flowers? Plan ahead — both local florists are closed on Sunday.

Take Her to Dinner

End the day the right way. Portland has no shortage of great restaurants — what's listed here is just a starting point. From scratch-made coastal dining to bold Mexican flavors, fresh sushi, and Gulf Coast seafood, there's a table waiting for every kind of mom.

And don't overlook the cocktail menu. Several of Portland's restaurants have their own signature drinks worth ordering — from The Birdie at Fifth & Elm and Pep's to Texas A1, Lestourgeon, and Sabor Maya. A well-crafted drink can turn dinner into an evening.

  • The Grove at Fifth & Elm - Gulf Coast Oysters, coastal fish tacos, Tequila Lime Shrimp, and craft cocktails on an open-air terrace. Open daily at 11 a.m.
  • Pep's Mexican Steakhouse - Certified Angus Beef, sizzling fajitas, gourmet tacos, and a tomahawk steak that arrives at the table like it means business. Mom will love it — especially the cocktails.
  • Lestourgeon Seafood Company - Fresh Gulf seafood done right. Come hungry and order the catch.
  • Texas A1 Steaks & Seafood - Nueces Bay flounder in pecan flour batter, golden fried catfish, and steaks cooked exactly right. Warm, local, and exactly what the Gulf Coast should taste like.
  • Sabor Maya Mexican Cuisine - Whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner — authentic flavors and a welcoming atmosphere for the whole family.
  • Rice Hat - A local go-to for Asian cuisine worth the visit.
  • Poseidon Sushi - Serving authentic Japanese food, noodles & dumplings, sushi, hibachi, poke bowls & more.
  • Surfing Crab - A family-friendly, casual restaurant specializing in Cajun-style seafood boils. Mom will love the crab legs.
  • Whataburger - Sometimes the best gift is letting her decide. If she says Whataburger, you say yes.

And if the night is still young — walk down to Indian Point Pavilion during golden hour. The light on the bay in May is something else. No reservations required.
