Fourth of July falls on a Saturday this year, and Portland, Texas is the perfect home base for a long weekend on the Coastal Bend.

You're minutes from fireworks over Corpus Christi Bay, live music at Fifth & Elm, beaches in two directions, and some of the best fishing on the Texas coast.

Whether you're driving in from San Antonio, Houston, the RGV, or just down the road — make it a weekend worth remembering.

Where to Watch Fireworks Near Portland, Texas 🎆

Here are some of the best Fourth of July fireworks in the Coastal Bend — only minutes away!

🎇 Corpus Christi Bayfront — Watch the show from the seawall, T-Heads, or bayfront parks. Downtown Corpus Christi is about 12 minutes from Portland.

🎇 North Beach in Corpus Christi — Catch the fireworks from the waterfront near the USS Lexington, right across the Harbor Bridge. About 10 minutes from Portland.

🎇 Indian Point Pier in Portland — On a clear night, you can watch the Corpus Christi fireworks from the Portland waterfront. Bring your fishing gear and stay for the show.

🎇 Fireworks in Rockport — The Wendell Family Fireworks have been a Coastal Bend tradition since 1965. Great viewing spots include Rockport Beach Park, Little Bay, and the Marina. About 15 minutes north of Portland.

Beaches Near Portland, Texas

Portland's shoreline is more coastal marsh than traditional beach, but that's part of what makes the view so special. For classic beach fun — swimming, sandcastles, and waves — Portland puts you minutes from two of the Coastal Bend's most popular beaches.

Rockport Beach is a short drive north — calm, clean, and ideal for families.

Fish the Pier and Catch the Fireworks

Indian Point Pier is one of Portland's favorite spots — open 24/7 and fishing since the 1950s. On the Fourth of July, it comes with a bonus! The Corpus Christi fireworks are visible right from the Portland waterfront. Don't forget your fishing license — settle in, cast a line, and watch the night sky come alive.

Cool Off at the Aquatic Center

The Portland Aquatic Center at 2002 Billy G Webb Dr. (link) is open Tuesday through Sunday, noon to 6 p.m. through August 10. Two pools, waterslides, palm tree shade, and zero-depth entry for little ones. Outside food is welcome, so pack a cooler and make a day of it. Glass containers are not allowed.

The Coastal Bend Is Your Backyard

Portland's location on the bay puts some of the best outdoor activities on the Texas coast right outside your door. Here's what's waiting for you this weekend.

🪁 Kiteboarding — The Coastal Bend is home to some of the windiest cities in the nation, making Portland's waterfront one of the premier kiteboarding destinations in Texas. If you've never tried it, this weekend is a great excuse to watch the pros fly.

🎣 FishingIndian Point Pier (link) has been a Portland landmark since the 1950s and is open 24/7. Redfish and trout are catch-and-keep year-round. A fishing license is required — kids under 17 fish free.

🦅 Birdwatching — Portland sits on the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail. Shorebirds, wading birds, roseate spoonbills, and raptors are common through the summer months — bring your binoculars.

🚤 Boating — The Chris Andrews Boat Launch is free and open to the public, with a kayak launch and fish cleaning station on-site. Push off and you're on Corpus Christi Bay in minutes.

🛶 Kayaking — Paddle the calm waters of Corpus Christi Bay right from Portland. Kayak rentals are available daily from 8 a.m. to sunset at Chris Andrews Boat Launch through Whenever Water Sports (link).

Golf — NorthShore Country Club is a championship links-style course with four holes running along the bay. 801 East Broadway Avenue, Portland, TX (link).

🌅 Sunset Lake Park — A peaceful spot right in Portland for walking, biking, and taking in the coastal scenery. A great way to start the morning or wind down after a night of fireworks.

No. However, we are minutes away from Downtown Corpus Christi and Rockport where you can watch the fireworks!

Please note, fireworks are prohibited within Portland city limits and up to 5,000 feet outside city limits.

The closest spots are the Corpus Christi Bayfront and North Beach, both about 10 to 12 minutes away. Rockport Beach and the Wendell Family Fireworks are about 15 minutes north. You can also catch a great view of the Corpus Christi fireworks right from Indian Point Pier in Portland!

Downtown Corpus Christi is about 12 minutes from Portland.

Rockport Beach and downtown Rockport are about 15 minutes from Portland.

Portland offers more of a coastal marsh than traditional beach spots for swimming and sandcastles, but has beautiful waterfront walkways and fishing areas.

For classic beach fun, North Beach in Corpus Christi and Rockport Beach are both a short drive away!
